Our Philosophy & Staff
Our mission at The First Chapter is to provide high quality new and used books while supporting individuals with disabilities in a unique way. A common barrier that the Co-Founders, John & Jim, encountered in their work providing support services for adults with disabilities was a lack of any meaningful or competitive employment. The First Chapter gives adults and teens with disabilities transferable work experience and vocational support services while giving them a place to contribute to their community in a positive way.
John Horgan - CoFounder
John Horgan is a current DDS Sexuality Trainer of Trainers with nearly a decade of experience working in the human services field, with both adults and children. John is also the North Central Coordinator for the Rainbow Support Group, an LGBTQ support groups for adults with disabilities. John's empathy for the disabled goes far beyond his work accomplishments, though, as he lives with Aspergers syndrome. Overcoming obstacles is nothing new to John and he is grateful to be able to share his expertise with the community and propel forward the discussion of equality and care for everyone!
Jim Ingalls - CoFounder
Jim Ingalls is a current DDS Sexuality Trainer of Trainers with nearly ten years of experience in the human services field. Jim is the current manager of a group home supporting adults with cerebal palsy and also assists with the coordination of the North Central Rainbow Support Group. When he's not working or at The First Chapter, Jim can be found volunteering his time as a Shriner at the local Freemason's Lodge. With a love of community, Jim is excited to offer his support and services to better the lives of each individual.

Zach Moore - Social Media Director
Hello, my name is Zach Moore. I'm 26, a single father, EMT, veteran, and sufferer of depression and general anxiety disorder. I have always been the helping type, quick to offer a hand, ear, or dollar to a friend or stranger in need. During my senior year of high school I enlisted in the Army National Guard and served as a medic for six years, because it seemed like best job for someone who likes to help people. As an EMT I often work with patients actively experiencing behavioral crises, and do my best to communicate positivity to them during my time with them. I'm glad to be able to have channels of mass communication such as social media to share positive messages and vibes as far and wide as possible, to anyone it might help out there.
